Yeah Marcus, we had a spectacular aurora show last Saturday. The display lit up the entire sky to every horizon here in northern Idaho. We first noticed it literally as the last sliver of the sun dropped below the mountains. They were bright enough that even after the moon set several hours later, everything was still twilight lit.

Wild idea, ULA need something to launch, and its likely going to be a lump of concrete....why not get spacex to cover a fraction of the costs by slapping a bunch of starlink sats in there. It wouldn't be the first time competitors have worked together and it's no skin off of ULA's back to do so given they need to get a launch done. It's also incredible that SpaceX are now launching to space more than some airlines fly in a month!

A GREAT Episode, yet again, @MarcusHouse. For your viewers it is worth pointing out the following: It's true that the noble gas Helium is non-toxic and non-reactive, but if you replace too much breathable air (in Earth's Atmosphere ~78% Nitrogen, ~21% Oxygen + a variety of other gasses making up the rest), Helium will easily suffocate a person. People, especially those with weak Hearts (poor oxygenation through the Coronary Arteries) who inhale Helium from Helium ballons to make the funny 'Mickey Mouse' voices can suffocate themselves, if too much Helium is inhaled, replacing breathable air in the lungs. Now the information surrounding the leak seems to place it outside the Life Support Subsystems, and as such it's not a problem other than a potential reduction of operation time in parts of the Reaction Control System. I thought I would just mention this by-the-by, since it's repeated ad nauseam that Helium is non-toxic, which of course it is, but it isn't necessarily harmless, depending on the situation, as listed above. Keep up the FANTASTIC WORK you do! If 31's incident is a fitment issue, there's be a change in personelle, or a change in methodology. If it was a materials failure, we'll be seeing another design change. Either way, the next version will be another incremental advance towards a reliable vehicle.

Hi Marcus. What a great update! It's always fantastic to catch up with all the news. I missed the Auroras because I was at my desk finishing my latest book until 1am. I was so disappointed 😞. I went up a local hill fort the next night with no luck. I'm hoping I might see the next burst in a couple of weeks time.

I think someone forgot to open a valve or a valve got stuck. In hydraulic situations, it's known as deadheading. If you're moving pressure through a pipe and there's no place for the pressure to go, you'll blow a pipe or a hose. In this case, it looks like a pipe blew, and as it bent over, it crimpped a few wires and caused a short. And Bob's your uncle.

I think this is probably just the beginning for the next couple of YEARS now for the solar activity really hitting the Earth hard and causing the magnificent auroras. Shame that our geomagnetic shield is down right now to a very minimum and only getting weaker as time goes on, as we are, in my opinion, starting a pole shift. It's been about 12,000 years almost to the day and this IS recorded history when the Earth's magnetic poles swap from N to S and vice versa. Let's see how it goes over the next year or 2 as we are coming to the true solar maximum. I hope the magic band is back this year (6 meters or 50mHz on Ham Radio)

I didn't get to see any auroras where I am which is sad but then I remember that if auroras are seen at the equator that means there's a really strong solar storm which would cook the grid

Saw the aurora in Christchurch New Zealand, That was the first time I've ever seen one, and most assured that was the first time an aurora had been visible over chch in my life time.

I can't help thinking that Ukraine would garner useful goodwill when Ukraine a free, secure and efficient licensing burocrosy. Ukraine is familiar with propulsive experimentation and would bring much needed cash and kudos.

There must be a simpler, faster, more efficient way of putting a heat shield on a spacecraft than tiles. Some form of megacasting?

No aurora for us in Michigan on the first night, it was completely overcast. Clear skies on the on night 2 but the aurora was weak then petered out. Also Surfshark has been working well for me for the past 2 years.
